If you follow us on Facebook, or any of our social sites, or a regular on this blog, you know we talk a lot about home design. Once you make the initial (major) decision to build your dream home, this step is one of the most important steps you will have in your home building journey.
Your floor plan is extremely important. While you want to make sure you have everything you've always wanted in a home, ensuring your home is 'timeless' rather than 'trendy' may be something you want to consider. Here are a few tips on how to go Timeless Over Trendy:
Functionality is key
At the end of the day, no matter what decisions you make with your plan, functionality is very important. Examples of this include: foot traffic. You want to think about the flow of traffic inside your house, and be sure to place windows, walls and doors where it makes sense! Another thing you'll want to think about: The spaces, and how to decorate these spaces. For example, you'll want to make sure your furniture fits perfectly for the space it's in.
A Simple Plan
Many times, homeowners will choose a more simple plan...choosing simple will never go out of style! This is why we have an extensive line of plans our homeowners can build from. This helps homeowners know exactly what it will look and feel like now - and in the future. In addition, choosing to build straight from a stock plan can save money! See the Timber Block Series and floor plans here.
Interior Matters
Looking ahead to the day you move into your new home, you'll need to picture the interior: and this doesn't only mean the curtains or furniture! This will include features in every room, from the cabinets to island in the kitchen, to the shower and tub in the bathroom, and even your basement, outdoor living spaces and garage.
Shop-Around-Style
There is a reason why we have 4 completely different series (and several full custom homes as well!) Building your home to suit your taste and style is critical. From Craftsman and Classic to Vintage and Contemporary, we provide dozens of styles to get you started. Again, while you can build straight from the plan, any of our homes can be modified just the way you want.
